Hussein Monitor is an independent research platform dedicated to documenting the situation of Iraq's ethnic and religious minorities — Turkmen, Yazidi, Christian, Shabak, Mandaean, and others — at a time when the international community's attention has largely moved on.

The platform was founded on a simple premise: that documentation is the first obligation of accountability. Before demands can be made, before cases can be built, before history can be recorded — the facts must be established. That is what this platform exists to do.

01 What We Cover

Hussein Monitor publishes in-depth field research, policy analysis, and investigative reporting on the following areas:

Post-ISIS Accountability — The legal and institutional mechanisms tasked with delivering justice for genocide survivors, including UNITAD, the Iraqi judiciary, and international accountability frameworks. Where these mechanisms succeed, we document it. Where they fall short, we say so.

Demographic Collapse — Iraq's minority communities have experienced catastrophic population decline since 2003. Hussein Monitor tracks these changes with precision, drawing on UN data, NGO reports, and field documentation.

Political Representation — The Turkmen, Yazidi, and Christian communities face systematic exclusion from political power at both the federal and regional levels. We document the laws, the court rulings, and the political decisions that shape — and diminish — minority representation.

The Missing — More than 2,700 Yazidi women and children remain missing as of 2026. Hundreds of Turkmen women were abducted from Tal Afar by ISIS and have never been found. Hussein Monitor maintains ongoing coverage of the search for the missing and the families who wait.

International Policy Analysis — How European asylum agencies, the United Nations, and international NGOs document and respond to Iraq's minority crisis — and the gap between what is known and what is done.

Hussein Zainulabdeen is an independent researcher specializing in Iraqi minority rights and post-conflict accountability. A former liaison officer at the United Nations in Iraq, he has spent years documenting the fate of communities targeted by ISIS — particularly Turkmen, Yazidis, and other minorities overlooked by mainstream narratives.

Through Hussein Monitor, he publishes field-based reports, data investigations, and survivor testimonies that bridge the gap between ground realities and international policy.
